Niblock was founded in 1959 by Mr. Joseph Niblock, as a Carpentry & Joinery contractor, eventually employing around 80 Joiners on various major construction sites in and around London.
In the early 1960‘s Niblock began to venture into general building contracting, working primarily for the Greater London Council and Local Authorities and undertaking an element of new construction of flats and houses close to their workshop in Anerley.
During the late 1970‘s Niblock decided to concentrate their efforts on general building and in consequence the carpentry division was gradually wound down. This concentration on general building led to the company being approved by most London Local Authorities, numerous Housing Associations and selected private clients.
By the early 1980‘s Niblock‘s reputation was recognised as a contractor that actually delivered what was promised and this helped forge the relationships Niblock still enjoy with major consultants within the industry, private enterprises, Housing Associations and Local Authorities.
It was in the early 1980‘s that the present Managing Director, Martin Waters, began his association with the company. Martin joined Niblock as a Quantity Surveyor, but his talents were quickly recognised by the Board of Directors and he was soon promoted to Director.
In 1992 the Directors were considering retirement. Martin recognised Niblock had a good reputation and potential and decided to take the bold step of buying out the retiring Directors.
Martin‘s aim was to retain the positive and traditional elements that were associated with Niblock and inject foresight and a positive attitude towards risk and opportunity. This approach proved to be the turning point in the company‘s fortune
Today, Niblock has a turnover in excess of £12 million and a healthy order book for the future, with repeat business being the cornerstone of the company‘s turnover.
